Key Package Rights

Key Rights under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018

General

The combination of travel services offered to you is a package within the meaning of the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. Therefore, you will benefit from all EU rights applying to packages. The company that has organised your package will be fully responsible for the proper performance of the package as a whole. Additionally, as required by law, that company has protection in place to refund your payments and, where transport is included in the package, to ensure your repatriation in the event that it becomes insolvent.

Key Rights

  • Before signing a travel package contract, travellers will get all the important information they need. There is always at least one trader responsible for ensuring that all travel services in the contract are provided correctly. Travellers will also receive an emergency number or contact details to reach the organiser or travel agent.

  • Travellers can transfer the package to someone else with reasonable notice, although there might be extra fees. The package price can only increase if certain costs go up, like fuel prices. This price change must be clearly stated in the contract and can only happen up to 20 days before the package starts. If the price increase is more than 8%, travellers can cancel the contract. If a price increase is allowed, travellers are entitled to a price reduction if costs drop.

  • If any important part of the package changes significantly, travellers can cancel without a fee and get a full refund. If the trader cancels the package before it starts, travellers will receive a refund and possibly compensation.

  • Travellers can also cancel without a fee before the package begins if there are serious issues, like security problems at the destination. They may cancel at any time before the package starts, but a fair termination fee may apply.

  • If important parts of the package cannot be provided after it begins, travellers should be offered alternatives at no extra cost. They can also cancel without a fee if the services do not match the contract and the organiser does not fix the issue. Travellers can claim a price reduction or compensation if services are not delivered properly.

  • The organiser must assist travellers who face difficulties. If the organiser or retailer goes bankrupt, payments will be refunded. If insolvency occurs after the package starts and includes transport, arrangements will be made to return the travellers. The organiser has insurance for insolvency as outlined in their booking conditions. For more information or for help due to insolvency, travellers should refer to the organiser’s booking conditions.
